I am the type of person who looks for meaning in everyday life. I seek opportunities to heal and grow, within the opportunities life presents, rather than always digging deeper or going down rabbitholes. With Summer upon us, I see these simple, natural moments as a chance for growth and well-being to unfold organically.
When I think of Summer on the Gold Coast, I picture the sun and the sweaty heat, those evening storms to cool us down, swimming in the ocean, and spending time with family. It's a fun, social season for connection and joy, a time to be out and about with friends, preparing for the year ahead, and enjoying the fruits of the previous one. Personally, I always feel my healthiest during Summer—active, tanned, eating lighter meals, and simply enjoying myself.
In Summer we intuitively spend more time outdoors, but then we’re led to believe that the sun is harmful and we should avoid it. We also know that the sun provides us with life giving energy - we can’t survive without it. I’m not suggesting that we all need to spend the day in the sun without covering up at all, however, we can utilise the power of the sun in our own healing. Do you get that warm, fuzzy glow, when you stop to feel the sun shining on your skin? Sunlight carries information for healing, and we are the receptors, nourishing us in more ways than we realise.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted another wet Summer, and with recent floods in our area, and the regular fear inducing media output about flooding and storms focuses our attention on the fear and negativity. According to the Law of attraction this will only create more of what we don’t want. So if the opposite of rain and flooding is sunny, clear days, we could instead focus our energy and gratitude on the sun. Now, I’m not naïve enough to believe that this means we won’t have heavy rains - they are important and serve a purpose too, but I do believe that we are co-creators of our experience here. On an energetic level, Summer floods can wash away what is not serving us to create the space for something new.
I value creating meaning and finding opportunities for us to heal and grow from our everyday experiences. And this can look like simply connecting to your environment and watching a sunrise. When I wake up in the morning, I like to look out the window and while the sun is low in the sky, just watch it for a minute or two. I give thanks for the warmth on my face, and the life we have. I notice where it is in the sky with amazement as it changes so much over the seasons. Even if it is cloudy, I still do it. I know where it would be, or I can tell where it is behind the clouds and have gratitude anyway, knowing that it will soon be back. This is like focusing on growth and abundance, and trusting that the light will return.
Water is a powerful cleanser. We can proactively look at what we need to cleanse in our lives, so that we don’t need a physical manifestation of that, like a flood to do it for us. Water is such a fascinating topic that I’ll cover more deeply in future articles. For now, start with drinking the best water you can - clean and filled with life. I will share some great products but even without them, you can change the energy of your water. On a glass jar write a word like ‘love’, ‘peace’, or ‘gratitude’ and the water will take on the energetic imprint of the word, that you can drink to influence and heal your body. Leaving your water in the sun for a few minutes will enliven the water with the same healing energy that we experience, because we are mostly water.
If you are lucky enough to swim in the ocean, you could set an intention to let the water wash away what no longer serves you. Have you noticed how quickly the ocean clears after a storm! Its self cleaning capacity is incredible. It can do the same for you, if you choose it. You might have felt it when you’ve jumped in the water after a rough day and everything resets. The water will hold and support you.
With the busyness of Summer, and how much we can fit into the longer days, we need to remember to ground ourselves as well. Calm your mind by letting the earth take away all the excess charge. Walk with bare feet on the sand or the grass, especially with the morning dew. Your body can absorb the water, and exchange for anything that you don’t need anymore.
These are all really simple everyday practices that carry great value when you use them with intention. My hope is that, instead of bypassing our spiritual practices, we find practical ways to weave them into our daily lives. You don’t need to follow my practices, but if there are aspects that resonate, or you want to apply or edit some, then go for it!
I encourage you to find simple practices that create a connection to your environment, and create meaning and intention from your everyday life this Summer.
